James Hudson awarded fellowships to engineer heart tissue

We are excited to announce that Dr James Hudson has received the Paul Korner Innovation Award for the most innovative successful Future Leader Fellowship from the National Heart Foundation, in addition to a Career Development Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

The Heart Foundation Paul Korner Innovation Award was introduced in 2013 in memory of Professor Paul Korner and his contribution to cardiovascular research, and provides a single payment of $20,000 on top of the Future Leader Fellowship.

The co-funded fellowships will allow Dr Hudson and his team to develop a model of miniaturised 3D human heart tissue for research into cardiac biology and also drug discovery applications. This will hopefully result in better, cheaper drugs in the future with less reliance on animal testing.
